Evaluation
To conclude my blog posts on the procedure behind the creation of our choreography piece, I’m going to give a brief evaluation.
Overall I feel that the stimulus and message of the piece did come through clearly in our choreography however with regards to the message, maybe not quite to the extent I think it potentially could have, however due to this being our first proper attempt at choreographing a piece I think it was a really good effort from us all.
There are moments where I think the stimulus is really clear, Taylor and Portia's section at the beginning of the piece in particular. This is because we really bring to life the brain with all of the emojis stemming out from it through us each leaving the clump formation one by one, each embodying our designated emotion. At this point I feel we represented the stimulus very effectively, another moment that I think this is in Gabby's section when we are, yet again, in a clump arrangement creating movements that resemble the brain breathing as it produces a clear image to the audience. To give an example of a point where I think the message comes across successfully, I would say the very end of the piece where we return to our starting position however this time a few of us create flinching motions which symbolises that although there are ways in which mental health issues, such as DID, can be helped, they can never fully leave you, there will always be a part of them with you. This ending I feel really does a great job of expressing this to the audience.
From completing this project, I definitely feel that I've learnt a lot of skills and new techniques that will help me with future choreography projects. From the short workshops we participated in early on in our process, to really developing all of the ideas and meanings behind each section, I've been able to take a lot away from it which is great and feel sure that when faced with another choreography project that it will be much less daunting.
In terms of my strengths for this project, I would probably say the level of understanding that I had of the message and story behind the piece, having researched a bit about DID along with spending so much time thinking about what it was that we wanted to portray, I really felt that I had got to grips with the story which I think helped me with the performance.
A weakness of mine is that I feel I didn't contribute enough to the section I had been assigned to choreograph, had I been more organised and done more research earlier on I think I would have been able to give more. In the future I think this would be much less of an issue as know the level of research required and I also know more of a variety of choreographic devices and methods which would help me a lot.
